The 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) took place in Paris from July 18 to 24, bringing together the brightest young minds in physics from around the globe. The Indian team made a remarkable impression, securing a total of five medals — three of which were gold and two silver. This achievement places India tied for fifth overall alongside Taiwan, Japan, and Russia among 415 participants from 87 countries. The gold medals were clinched by three outstanding students: Kanishk Jain from Pune, Snehil Jha from Jabalpur, and Riddhesh Bendale from Indore. Their collective efforts and exceptional performances highlighted not just individual brilliance but also the rigorous preparation undertaken by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education’s Olympiad cell. Under the guidance of mentors like Prof. Sitikantha Das from IIT Kharagpur and Vinayak Katdare, a retired director from Ruparel College, these young scholars underwent extensive training and camps. The silver medals were earned by Aagam Shah from Surat and Rajit Gupta from Kota, further enhancing India's stellar standing at the competition. The success of the Indian team underscores the significance of quality education and mentorship in shaping young talent. Their participation and success reflect a concerted effort between educators, institutions, and the passionate students dedicated to excelling in the field of physics. The IPhO not only serves as a platform for students to showcase their knowledge and skills in physics but also fosters international cooperation and the exchange of ideas among budding scientists. Competing against their peers from countries around the world, the participating students experience a unique blend of competition and camaraderie, motivated to reach new heights in their academic careers. In conclusion, India's impressive haul of medals at the International Physics Olympiad serves as a testament to the country’s commitment to education and the cultivation of future scientific leaders. As these young achievers return home, they carry with them not only medals but also the potential to contribute significantly to science and technology on a global scale.
