Big news in the AI world! OpenAI has announced it will give its AI products and services to US government agencies at almost no cost. This offer comes right after the Trump Administration revealed its AI Action Plan, paving the way for advanced AI in federal work. Sam Altman, OpenAI’s founder, shared on X that this new effort, named OpenAI for Government, will work closely with the US General Services Administration (GSA). What’s in the deal? For just $1 per agency, federal executive branch workers can use OpenAI’s top models through ChatGPT Enterprise. This partnership is set for one year, aiming to cut through red tape and bring AI power directly to government hands. OpenAI’s blog shares some spicy results: in Pennsylvania, employees using ChatGPT shaved off a whopping 95 minutes a day on routine tasks. Not far behind, 85% of North Carolina’s participants in a 12-week test with the Department of State Treasurer reported positive experiences. But OpenAI isn’t the only player in this game. Anthropic’s Claude, another AI tool, just got added to the GSA schedule, meaning federal agencies can get their hands on it too with easy pre-set prices and rules. Adding to the excitement, just a day before, the US government greenlit OpenAI, Google’s parent Alphabet, and Anthropic as official AI vendors. Meanwhile, the Pentagon already awarded AI contracts to OpenAI and Elon Musk’s xAI, signaling a big push for AI across federal offices. Not stopping there, key departments like the Treasury and Office of Personnel Management have shown keen interest in using these new AI tools, according to GSA insiders. So, what’s cooking?
