August 8, 2025

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a strong warning for heavy rainfall in parts of West Bengal. Due to an active monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation over central Bangladesh, the sub-Himalayan districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar will see heavy rain until August 12. The IMD warns of very heavy rainfall at one or two places, especially on August 11. But the rain drama doesn't end there! The southern districts of South 24 Parganas, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, and Purba Bardhaman will also be enjoying heavy showers till August 9. For the city folks, Kolkata is expected to have overcast skies with light to moderate rain until the morning of August 9, according to the IMD. The past 24 hours have already seen bursts of heavy rain in north Bengal. The districts of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar witnessed heavy rain at one or two places, the IMD reported. The Gopalpur tea estate in Alipurduar and Damdim tea estate in Jalpaiguri each recorded a whopping 100 mm of rain – the highest in the state! Meanwhile, Sankosh in Cooch Behar saw 80 mm of rain, adding to the wet spell. So, whether you’re in the hills or the plains, keep those umbrellas and raincoats ready. The monsoon has brought its mighty showers, and the IMD says this rainy saga will continue for a few more days. Stay safe and enjoy the refreshing rains!
