Delhi Govt to Regularise Borewells Soon to Fight Water Crisis, Says Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh

August 9, 2025

Delhi is gearing up to tackle its nagging water crisis with a spicy new twist! Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh made a sparkling announcement on Friday. He revealed that the Delhi government is cooking up a special policy to regularise borewells. Why? To stop illegal water extraction and make sure every home gets water smoothly. Speaking at the Assembly during the lively Monsoon Session, Mr. Singh said, “We are trying to provide water to every household. So, borewells should be allowed under regulation. A policy is being formulated to regularise them. Seizing all borewells all of a sudden will cause problems.” Right now, borewells are being sealed following the National Green Tribunal's strict rules. But Mr. Singh warns that suddenly shutting down all borewells would cause a big mess in the city’s water flow. “The current situation in Delhi is a result of 11 years of negligence. Abruptly shutting all borewells is not practical. Action has been taken against those selling water from borewells. An enforcement team is being formed to monitor commercial establishments like hotels and impose penalties wherever necessary,” he added boldly. This hottest news came as he answered questions from BJP MLA Chandan Choudhary of Sangam Vihar. The MLA complained about a costly ₹7 crore pipeline project that leaked and never worked. Now, officials want another ₹4 crore to fix it! The Minister fired back with cold facts: “Eleven years ago, Delhi had a water loss rate of 30%, which has now increased to 40%. This [Aam Aadmi Party] might be the first in the country that increased water wastage. If we bring this down to 10%, Delhi will no longer face any water shortage.” Mr. Singh also shared some silver lining: 15 kilometres of fresh pipelines have been laid, and 58 kilometres of old pipes replaced recently. He vowed, “The government will work in every constituency regardless of MLA’s party affiliation. Our identity will be defined by performance, not politics.” So Delhi residents, get ready! The city’s water story is about to get exciting with smart borewell rules and fixes all across the board!
