A fiery protest erupted in Howrah today as determined demonstrators marched towards Nabanna, the West Bengal secretariat. This protest marked exactly one year since a horrific crime shook the state — the rape and murder of Abhaya, an on-duty doctor at RG Kar hospital. The crowd, chanting with passion and pain, reached the Santragachi assembly point where police had set up a strong iron wall of barricades to stop them. But these protestors were not ready to give up easily. They attempted to break through the ten-foot-high barricades, scaling the walls in bold and desperate moves. "The police can fire upon us, but we are determined to reach Nabanna, where the state government must answer why justice has not been delivered to Abhaya (RG Kar victim) even after one year," shouted one protestor, showing the fierce spirit burning within the crowd. The police kept warning the protesters through loudspeakers, reminding them to obey the Calcutta High Court’s order to maintain law and order. Still, the protestors charged forward, their demands echoing louder than control orders. The protest, called the 'Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan,' turned passionate and intense as it highlighted the anger and heartache felt by the people over the delay of justice in this tragic case. The march painted a tragic yet powerful picture of citizens fighting for truth, justice, and accountability in the halls of power. This dramatic stand at Santragachi is a reminder that the people behind these cries want more than just words. They want action — fast, fair, and final. The fight for Abhaya’s justice continues to blaze on, a year after the horrifying incident at RG Kar hospital.
