August 13, 2025

ASCOT, ENGLAND – Imagine the roar at Ascot Racecourse on August 9, 2025, when India’s star jockey Suraj Narredu did something no Indian has done before – he won big at the legendary Ascot in London! Suraj was riding Fireblade and led Team Asia to a jaw-dropping triumph in the famous Shergar Cup, a race where four teams clash for glory. This was Team Asia’s debut year after replacing the Ladies’ team, and what a way to announce themselves! Team Asia won two of the six races and grabbed a nail-biting second place in the final race, just squeezing past Team Europe by one tantalizing point. The scoreboard read: Team Asia 68 points, Team Europe 67, Team Great Britain and Ireland 62, and the Rest of the World 55. Hugh Bowman from the Rest of the World took home the Silver Saddle for the best jockey of the day. Suraj was buzzing with excitement. He told TOI, "It’s an incredible victory and a dream come true. I’m happy that the huge effort I put in before coming here as preparation for this great contest paid off." He also praised his teammates, the Japanese jockeys, saying, "I’d like to congratulate my teammates, both the Japanese jockeys, who played their part in getting us the points we needed. It’s a team format, and we were able to pull it off in our first rides at Ascot." With four Indian Derby crowns, an incredible 2,400 wins, and around 110 classic race victories in Indian racing centers, Suraj is no stranger to winning. Now, he hopes this dazzling success at Ascot will open new doors worldwide. "I hope now that other racing jurisdictions like Hong Kong and Japan will take note of this, and I’ll get another chance to showcase my talent there. That would really be a dream come true as well," Suraj said. The man has stirred the Indian horse racing scene like never before, and the world is watching!
