Trump Sends National Guard Troops to Washington DC, Eyes Crime War in Major US Cities!

August 15, 2025

The Trump drama unfolds on the streets of Washington DC! Acting on the President's orders, about 800 National Guard troops hit the city streets on Thursday to tackle the surge in violent crime. Alongside these troops, 500 federal law enforcement agents joined as President Trump grabbed control over the city’s police force. Why? Because, as Trump said, "violent crime was out of control." President Trump isn’t stopping at DC. This is just the beginning of his war on crime! Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump confidently declared, "We're not going to lose our cities over this. This will go further. We're starting very strongly with D.C., and we're going to clean it up real quick." He promised to "take back our capital" and hinted that other cities would follow. The Sun reports Trump’s eyes are set on major US cities like Oakland, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and Baltimore. He claimed the city was "taken over by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals," "drugged out maniacs,” and homeless people, adding dramatically, "I'm announcing a historic action to rescue our nation's capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor and worse." His tough talk continued as he named Los Angeles, Baltimore, Oakland, New York, and Chicago as places in "a very bad" state. "We're not going to lose our cities over this," he said again, promising a strong start in DC. But the Democrats fired back fiercely! Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott slammed Trump’s claims by saying, "When it comes to public safety in Baltimore, he should turn off the right-wing propaganda and look at the facts. Baltimore is the safest it's been in over 50 years. Homicides are down 28% this year alive, reaching the lowest level of any year on record." Illinois Governor JB Pritzker hit back with, "Let's not lie to the public, you and I both know you have no authority to take over Chicago." Other Democratic leaders accused Trump of using the crime crackdown to distract voters from his own controversies. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tweeted, "For all the talk Republicans give about giving their localities their rights, where are they now?" House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries added, "the crime scene in DC most damaging to everyday Americans is at 1200 Pennsylvania Ave." Under Title 32, the president and defense secretary have the power to send federal troops anywhere in the US, as Time reported. Trump’s past moves include sending troops in 2020 to cities during protests after George Floyd’s killing. Earlier this year, he sent 5,000 National Guard members and Marines to Los Angeles after protests over immigration crackdowns. At the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, Trump revealed he wants to extend the 30-day federal police force limit with Congress’s okay. "We think the Democrats will not do anything to stop crime, but we think the Republicans will do it almost unanimously," he said. Though he focuses on Washington DC now, Trump hinted his crackdown is just a model for other cities soon to join the list. So, will Trump’s crime battle sweep across America? Only time will tell—one thing's for sure, the streets of Washington DC have become the frontline in this high-stakes showdown!
