The Income Tax Department has great news and a small break for taxpayers. Due to important scheduled maintenance, the Instant e-PAN service will take a 2-day nap from 12:00 AM on 17th August to 12:00 AM on 19th August 2025. So, plan your PAN needs before or after these dates! But what is this magic called e-PAN? Let’s unravel the mystery. e-PAN is a swift, digital PAN card created instantly using your Aadhaar details and a linked mobile number—completely free and without paperwork! If you’re an individual who doesn’t yet have a PAN but has Aadhaar, this service lets you get your PAN in a flash. Why is e-PAN a big deal? Chartered Accountant Himank Singla explains, “An e-PAN (Electronic Permanent Account Number) is a digitally signed PAN card issued in PDF format. It is generated instantly for eligible applicants using their Aadhaar details, without requiring submission of physical documents. This facility is particularly useful for individuals who need a PAN urgently for opening bank accounts, investing in securities, conducting high-value transactions, or complying with income tax rules.” It’s like having your PAN delivered on a silver cloud! On the Income Tax e-filing portal, they clearly stated: “Due to scheduled maintenance activity, Instant E-PAN services will not be available from 12:00AM, 17th August 2025 to 12:00AM,19th August 2025.
