Bangladesh's top Leader, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, sent a warm message to the Hindu community on Janmashtami, the joyous occasion celebrating Lord Krishna's birth. On Saturday, Yunus said that Lord Krishna's teachings can help keep harmony and brotherhood alive in Bangladesh. But why is this message so important? Well, since Yunus took office last August, many are worried about attacks on Hindus and their holy places. Speaking through the state news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Yunus said, "Lord Krishna's values centred on devotion to the creator and the establishment of peace in society continue to inspire people of all faiths." He added a strong call to action: "I call upon everyone to remain vigilant so that no one can undermine the existing order, fraternity, and communal amity in society. I believe that the ideals and teachings of Lord Sri Krishna will further strengthen the bonds of mutual goodwill and brotherhood." Yunus proudly described communal harmony as a "unique hallmark" of Bangladesh’s culture. For hundreds of years, people of the country have preserved an "enduring spirit of harmony" while following their own religions peacefully. He assured, "My interim government is committed to keeping this bond of harmony unbroken." Ending on a powerful note, he said, "Let us, through our collective efforts, build a new Bangladesh free from discrimination and enriched with communal harmony." However, it’s not all smooth: relations between India and Bangladesh have been tense since Yunus became the interim leader last year. India expressed concern about violence against minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh. It’s a special moment for Hindus in Bangladesh, as Janmashtami is even a public holiday there, celebrating Lord Krishna’s joyous birth. With a heart full of hope, Yunus’s message shines a light on unity, peace, and brotherhood at a crucial time.
