Rajinikanth’s Coolie Movie Gets ‘A’ Certificate; Fans Under 18 Left Waiting!

August 20, 2025

Rajinikanth’s superhit movie Coolie is now at the center of a legal drama! On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) told the Madras High Court a spicy secret – Sun TV Network Limited refused to make cuts demanded for a U/A certificate. Instead, they said, “No cuts! Give us an ‘A’ certificate.” This means only adults can watch the film in cinemas, leaving fans under 18 out in the cold. Additional Solicitor General AR.L. Sundaresan told Justice T.V. Thamilselvi, “At the time of hearing, it was proposed to them that if you want U/A certificate, some more cuts have to be made. They made an endorsement saying that we don’t want any cuts, but give us the ‘A’ certificate. They accepted the ‘A’ certificate and cannot turn a volte face now.” Ouch! The drama started when the production firm filed an appeal to the court to cancel the ‘A’ certificate and get a U/A certificate instead. They want kids and young fans to watch this mega blockbuster celebrating Rajinikanth’s amazing 50 years in films. The star-studded film features big names like Nagarjuna Akkineni and Aamir Khan, making it a pan-India hit. But with an ‘A’ certificate slapped, fans below 18 feel shut out. However, the CBFC said, “Hold on! The movie was released on August 14, but the appeal came late on August 20. There is no urgent need to rush this case like a demolition threat.” The ASG requested the court to wait until August 25 for the board to give its full reply. Justice Thamilselvi agreed and said the CBFC would get enough time to submit their counter affidavit since it’s already a week after the movie release. So, what’s next? Will the court listen to the fans and production team? Or will the ‘A’ sticker stay, keeping the young Rajini fans away? Only time will tell, but this case surely adds extra masala to the already fiery release of Coolie!
