August 22, 2025

Dr. James Dobson, the famous child psychologist and a giant in conservative Christian circles, died on Thursday at the age of 89. He founded Focus on the Family, a ministry that helped millions of families and campaigned on controversial issues like opposing abortion and gay rights. His death was confirmed by the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute. Dobson's journey began in 1977 when he created Focus on the Family. At its peak, this ministry had over 1,000 employees and gave Dobson a strong voice to speak on laws and social issues. He even advised White House panels and fought against laws banning conversion therapy, which aimed to "cure" gay people. In 2010, Dobson left Focus on the Family to start the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute and continued his mission through the Family Talk radio show. His show is a hit, heard on 1,500 radio stations across the country with more than half a million weekly listeners. He was also picked to serve on President Donald Trump’s Evangelical Executive Advisory Board, showing his influence stretched all the way to the White House. Dr. Dobson will be remembered as a passionate and polarizing figure who shaped family and social conversations in America with his bold voice and deep faith.
