PM Modi Launches Rs 5,200 Crore West Bengal Projects Amid Rising Public Anger Against TMC

August 22, 2025

Get ready, Kolkata! Prime Minister Narendra Modi is back in West Bengal with a bang. On Friday, Modi will visit the city to inaugurate and lay the foundation for major infrastructure projects worth a whopping Rs 5,200 crore. This includes the super-important Kona Expressway and exciting expansions of the Kolkata Metro. Modi fired up his supporters on his X Handle, saying, "With each passing day, public anger against the TMC is increasing. West Bengal is eagerly looking towards the BJP with hope because of our development agenda." He showed confidence that the people want change and growth. In a big push for road travel, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the 7.2 km long six-lane elevated Kona Expressway, costing over Rs 1,200 crore. This dazzling road will connect Howrah, nearby rural areas, and Kolkata tightly, cutting down travel time and easing daily commutes. But that’s not all! The Prime Minister will also officially open new metro railway lines in Kolkata, jazzing up urban travel. A fresh 13.61 km stretch of metro will be inaugurated, with services starting on routes from Noapara to Jai Hind Airport, Sealdah to Esplanade, and Beliaghata to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. This is a game changer to make trips to the airport and IT hubs a breeze. He plans a special visit to the Jessore Road Metro Station to flag off the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service and will take a quick metro ride along this route himself! Also, from a video conference, he will launch Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro services. The PM called his trip "a joy" as it focuses on transportation improvements in Kolkata, showing BJP’s serious push for development ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls. This visit marks Modi’s third trip to Bengal in just four months, highlighting the BJP’s powerful presence in the state. His last visit was on July 18, right before the TMC’s big rally, and earlier in May, he energized party workers at a rally in Alipurduar. With election fever rising, Modi’s mega project launches and bold remarks on public anger against the TMC are sure to stir up West Bengal's political pot. The BJP is geared up with promises of growth and stronger infrastructure. Can TMC keep its hold? The countdown to 2026 is on!
