Madras Presidency Sees Cotton Surge with 4,53,467 Bales Received till Mid-August 1925

August 25, 2025

Big news from Madras Presidency's cotton world! Between February 1 and August 15, 1925, the presses and spinning mills received a whopping 4,53,467 bales of cotton, each weighing 400 pounds. This is part of the total crop estimated at 552,700 bales for 1924-1925. How big is this? Well, last year during the same time frame, they received just 356,578 bales – quite a jump! Breaking it down, spinning mills got 105,443 bales of pressed cotton, which means more cotton yarn in the making. Meanwhile, 253,575 bales were sent off by sea to different destinations, giving a big boost to exports. Interestingly, about 3,293 bales came into Madras from Bombay by sea, adding to the local supply. This lively cotton movement speaks volumes about the bustling textile industry in the region. With more cotton flowing through presses and mills, and increased exports, Madras Presidency is clearly weaving a bright fabric for its economy this year.
