In a shocking scam, a man from Bihar has been caught in Bhadohi for using a West Bengal woman’s Aadhaar card to trick many people. Rohit Ranjan, also known as Pankaj Kumar Sharma, lives in Suryawa, Bhadohi district but is originally from Gaya, Bihar. He copied the Aadhaar of Priya Mandal Sarkar, a 25-year-old laborer from Nadia, West Bengal. Using her ID, he opened a bank account, bought a SIM card, and handed out fake admission letters for medical colleges across India, fooling many people out of lakhs of rupees. The fraud took place between September 29 and November 16, 2023, said police. After Priya was called for questioning about fraud, she learned about the misuse of her Aadhaar. Bhadohi Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik revealed that Rohit pretended to be a member of the Medical Council Committee in New Delhi. He tricked a Suryawa youth named Gufran into giving him ₹10 lakh by sending fake allotment and admission letters for a Kolkata medical college. Another victim lost ₹8 lakh in the same way. The police filed a case against Rohit on August 23, 2025, following a report from Haringhaat police station in Nadia. Charges include criminal breach of trust, cheating by personation, forgery, and violations under the IT Act. The police are investigating this explosive case to catch all involved and stop such scams from spreading. This case is a harsh reminder to be extra careful with personal documents and not to fall prey to tempting offers by fake agents. Beware of fraudsters who play with your dreams and money!
