Rabbitohs Star Brandon Smith Hit by Serious Drug and Betting Charges!

August 25, 2025

In a twist no one saw coming, Rabbitohs star Brandon Smith is now in deep trouble! The 29-year-old player has been hit with two serious charges by Queensland Police. The charges include supplying dangerous substances and using or sharing secret inside information for betting purposes. Brandon Smith landed on the Gold Coast before the South Sydney Rabbitohs' Round 23 match. Police spoke with him at Coolangatta Airport, then let him go without charging him on the spot. But behind the scenes, this talk was part of a bigger investigation by Taskforce Maxima and other Queensland law enforcement teams. Taskforce Maxima, known for cracking down on organised crime gangs, has stepped in with Queensland Police to dig deep into allegations involving Smith. Police say the star is connected to drug sales, hiding evidence, and illegal betting activities. A spokesperson told news.com.au that summons have been issued to Smith to appear in the Southern Magistrates Court on September 18. The Rabbitohs club released a statement on August 25, confirming they know about the allegations. They informed the NRL Integrity Unit and said, "The Rabbitohs will not be commenting further at this time as this is a Queensland Police investigation." Acting Police Commissioner Shane Chelepy explained the airport chat: "When Brandon arrived at Coolangatta, we had a conversation with him. After we talked to him about a variety of topics, he was free to continue playing football. We are now addressing an ongoing police problem. From what I could see, Brandon was able to play a good game of football and was very cooperative with us." This is a big shake-up considering Smith had just switched teams mid-season, moving from the Roosters to the Rabbitohs. Now, all eyes are on the upcoming court date and how this saga will affect Smith’s career and the Rabbitohs’ season.
