Supreme Court on Wednesday directed states and UTs to frame guidelines to ensure proper footpaths for pedestrians, emphasizing the importance of unobstructed and disabled-friendly walkways as part of pedestrians' fundamental rights. Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan's bench instructed the central government to present its pedestrian rights protection guidelines within two months and allowed six months to establish a National Road Safety Board. This move aims to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility across the country.
