Amit Shah Blasts Opposition for Opposing Bill to Remove Jailed PM, CMs; Calls Their Stand ‘Govt from Jail’

August 27, 2025

Hold on to your hats! Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed the opposition on Monday for opposing a sharp new constitutional bill that demands removing PMs, CMs, and ministers who spend 30 days or more behind bars. Picture this: running the country from jail! Shah took a fiery dig, saying, "Jail will be made CM house, PM house... DGP, chief secretary, cabinet secretary or home secretary will take orders from jail." In a bold call, he asked, "Can a CM, PM, or neta run the country from jail? Does that suit the dignity of our democracy?"Seems like Shah didn’t spare Congress or Rahul Gandhi either. He reminded everyone of Rahul tearing up the 2013 ordinance that protected Lalu Prasad from disqualification after conviction. Shah asked pointedly, "If there was morality that day, then what happened now? Just because you have lost three consecutive elections? Morality's standards are not connected with victory or loss in elections. They should be steady like the Sun and the Moon." Ouch, that’s a sharp jab!Despite tough opposition protests, Shah is confident the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025 will sail through. The bill wants to automatically remove any PM, CM, or minister arrested and detained for 30 consecutive days on serious charges punishable with 5 years or more in jail. Currently, a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of 31 MPs is reviewing the bill. Shah stressed the bill applies to all, including the PM and NDA CMs. "Right now, PM Narendra Modi is there, so there is no question of it. But if the PM of the country goes to jail, do you think it is right that the PM or a CM runs govt from jail?" he said. The minister cited recent cases where Delhi’s Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia didn’t resign after legal troubles, calling it "a new tradition" that lowers political and social morality. He reminded everyone that Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren resigned before his arrest, setting the right example.Shah also hit out at TMC and AAP for boycotting the JPC, saying, "It's not right to reject the rules of Parliament and then expect everything to happen on your terms." The government has offered them a fair chance, but if they refuse, "there's nothing more we can do."About reports of CISF presence inside Parliament, Shah assured that it is not an attempt to suppress protests. "Inside Parliament, any force present there, is under the authority of the Speaker. The identity of the force itself does not matter." He recalled the canister attack after which CISF deployment became necessary. With fiery words and no-holds-barred attitude, Amit Shah put the spotlight on political ethics and governance with the new bill. Will the opposition blink? Brace yourselves for a thrilling political showdown!
