New Delhi witnessed action-packed diplomacy as India and Canada kicked off their pre-Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on Friday. Leading the Indian team was Secretary (East) P Kumaran, while Canada's side was steered by Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison. These talks came hot on the heels of the recent grand meet between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada on 17 June 2025. The discussions were a golden chance for both countries to pause, look back, and map out the future of their friendship. The Ministry of External Affairs shared that both India and Canada strongly reaffirmed their bond built on shared democratic values, respect for law, and a solid commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity. An exciting highlight? Both sides cheered the return of their High Commissioners to each other's capitals, a major milestone signaling warmer ties. The talks fizzled with plans! Following the understanding between the two Prime Ministers to bring stability and balance, India and Canada set their sights on reactivating numerous dialogue channels. This includes star areas like trade, defence, energy, civil nuclear collaboration, security and law enforcement, critical minerals, space, science and technology, and agriculture. The aim? To build a partnership stronger than ever! Keeping the people first, both countries agreed on tackling capacity issues at their Missions and Consulates. This move aims to boost their people-to-people connections and create wider economic chances for both nations. Adding to the energy, Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison took a moment to meet with India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in a separate meeting. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal summed it up brightly on X: "India & Canada held pre-FOC consultations in New Delhi on Sept 19, led by Secretary (East) P. Kumaran & Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison. Both sides welcomed the return of High Commissioners, reviewed bilateral ties, agreed to reactivate all dialogue mechanisms, & address capacity issues at respective diplomatic missions." With such vibrant talks, the India-Canada relationship looks set to bloom with a fresh zest and exciting opportunities ahead!
