A new era of warfare is here, and it's far from traditional soldier-on-soldier fighting! Lt Gen Adosh Kumar, the Indian Army’s Director General of Artillery, declared that the age of non-contact warfare is becoming the exciting new normal worldwide. Why risk lives when wars can be won without close combat? He shared this during a keynote speech at the Gen S F Rodrigues Memorial Seminar on September 19, 2025. "Contact on the battlefield may no longer be a prerequisite for decisive action," said Lt Gen Kumar. Today’s wars lean heavily on remote powers like surveillance, cyber attacks, space technologies, long-range strikes, and smart autonomous systems. These tools hit the enemy hard while protecting our troops. The Indian Army has been on this futuristic path for some time. The lessons from recent battles show how forces relying on physical contact can be outsmarted and neutralized by precision strikes from afar. Take Op Sindoor, for example, which brilliantly showcased the might of surveillance, precision, and information dominance working together. Lt Gen Kumar explained, "Our space-based assets gave us real-time info to predict enemy moves. India’s precision strikes at long distances caused huge damage. We stayed calm and clear-minded, while our adversary was lost in confusion. That was non-contact at work. But this is just the beginning. To stay ahead, we must leap forward in both non-kinetic and kinetic tech." Surveillance is the beating heart of this new warfare style. Wide area imaging, electronic intelligence, launch-on-demand systems – all need to be made in India, strong and reliable. Moreover, India must have its own space navigation system that doesn’t depend on any foreign technology. The event attracted top military leaders like Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, Chief of Staff, Southern Command, industry experts, and veterans, all eager to hear about India’s bold future. In short, the Indian Army is gearing up to fight smarter, safer, and stronger. Non-contact warfare isn't just a concept anymore — it is the thrilling frontier of modern battle, and India won’t just follow but lead the way!
