US Consumer Confidence Dips As Job Worries Rise in August 2025

August 27, 2025

Hold on tight! US consumer confidence took a small dip in August 2025. The latest report from the Conference Board revealed that the confidence index slid to 97.4, down from July's revised 98.7. Economists had predicted a bigger drop to 96.2 but the number was a bit better than expected. So, what's behind this shaky mood? It’s all about jobs and money. People are feeling less hopeful about finding work right now. In fact, for eight months in a row, American households have been seeing fewer jobs available. Stephanie Guichard, a senior economist at the Conference Board, said, "Notably, consumers' appraisal of current job availability declined for the eighth consecutive month." That’s a long streak! But wait, there’s more—the future doesn't look too bright either. Pessimism about job opportunities down the road is growing, and hopes for future income are slipping too. Guichard added, "Meanwhile, pessimism about future job availability inched up and optimism about future income faded slightly." So, in simple words, people are worried about their work and money ahead, causing a chill in the otherwise steady confidence they had. Will this trend continue? Only time will tell, but for now, US consumers are watching their wallets a bit more closely.
