Hold your hats, Vietnam! Amazon is gearing up to beam internet from space, right over your heads. The Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam announced an exciting plan following a Hanoi meeting between deputy minister Pham Duc Long and Gonzalo de Dios, head of Global Licensing and Project Kuiper at Amazon. Amazon is not just talking—they are pledging a massive $570 million investment by 2030 to create the backbone needed for this stellar service. The plan includes building up to six ground stations and manufacturing terminals in Bac Ninh province, through smart local partnerships. Amazon Kuiper Vietnam Co., Ltd., a new local company, has been set up in the business hub of Ho Chi Minh City and has applied for permission to provide low Earth orbit satellite internet services. Why does this matter? Because Amazon's Kuiper project aims to bring fast broadband internet to remote and island areas where connectivity is often weak or missing. The company's pilot program is applying to operate for five years, targeting customers across consumer, business, and government sectors. But wait, there's more! Amazon won't be alone in this race. Starlink, the satellite internet rival led by Elon Musk, has also been officially allowed by the Vietnamese government to operate a similar five-year plan. Talk about a battle of the skies! The first step for Amazon's project was already taken in April when 27 Kuiper satellites rocketed into space from Florida, marking the start of their much-awaited internet-from-space network. When contacted, Amazon didn’t immediately respond due to U.S. business hours. But one thing’s clear—the satellite internet sky over Vietnam is about to get a lot busier, promising faster and wider online access even in the most hidden corners. A thrilling era for connectivity is just around the corner!
