Manoj Jarange Patil is turning up the heat in Mumbai! This fiery Maratha leader has been on a hunger strike for three days straight at Azad Maidan. His demand? Simple but huge – he wants the Maharashtra government to include the Maratha community in the OBC category. This will bring them government job and education reservation benefits. When the government ignored their pleas, Jarange Patil declared, "Since the government is not listening to our demands, I will stop drinking water from tomorrow (Monday). I was drinking water but now I am going to stop. I will not leave Mumbai till we get a reservation." This bold move has grabbed political attention. On Sunday, NCP-SP leader Supriya Sule met Jarange Patil and later demanded that the government find a solution to the reservation issue. But the mood at the meeting was tense. Some angry supporters shouted slogans against her father and NCP leader Sharad Pawar. The tension even escalated when someone threw a plastic bottle at her car as she left. The Maratha reservation debate in Maharashtra has long been a hot potato, and Jarange Patil’s dramatic step could shake things up even more. Will the government listen this time? The city is watching, and so are the Marathas!
