Houthi Leader Vows Fierce Revenge After Israeli Airstrike Kills Prime Minister in Sanaa

September 1, 2025

A fiery storm is brewing in the Middle East! The Houthis, a powerful Yemeni group, have cried out for revenge after a deadly Israeli airstrike hit their stronghold in Sanaa. The strike claimed the life of Ahmed al-Rahawi, the Houthis' Prime Minister, along with several other ministers — a big blow to their leadership. The drama unfolded during a government workshop when the Israeli military launched the attack, calling the target "a Houthi terrorist regime military target." The Houthis’ statement on Saturday didn't say how many ministers were lost, but the shockwaves spread fast. Mahdi al-Mashat, the head of the Houthis' Supreme Political Council, appeared in a video message firing up his followers. He declared, "We shall take vengeance, and we shall forge from the depths of wounds a victory." That’s a clear call for more action and no backing down! This strike ramps up tensions already heated by Israel’s war in Gaza. The Houthis have stepped up their attacks on Israel and its allies, including strikes on Western ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. They say they’re standing with Palestinians in Gaza and promise these attacks won’t stop Israeli strikes. Just days before, the Houthis claimed a missile attack on southern Israel, though Israel said it intercepted the missile. The battle seems far from cooling off. Despite the loss, the Houthi presidency vows their government will still function. Their statement said, "The blood of the great martyrs will be fuel and a motivator to continue on the same path." Al-Mashat added they will keep strengthening their armed forces, saying, "Our stance is steadfast, and will remain so until the aggression ceases and the siege is lifted, no matter the scale of the challenge." Who exactly else died in the strike remains unclear. But one thing is certain: this explosion in Sanaa has added fresh fire to an already tense and dangerous situation in the region.
