Hold onto your seats, cricket lovers! The Women's 50-over World Cup 2025 is knocking at the door, set to start on September 30 with a sizzling opening clash between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati. With just a month to go, the International Cricket Council (ICC) surprised everyone by announcing a jaw-dropping prize money hike – a whopping fourfold increase! The total prize pool now shines at a staggering USD 13.88 million. To put it in perspective, this is a massive 297% jump from the last Women's World Cup in 2022, which offered USD 3.5 million. But wait, here’s the real shocker – this prize money now tops the Men's ODI World Cup 2023's total of USD 10 million! The champions of this 13th edition will walk away with a cool USD 4.48 million. That’s a 239% leap from the USD 1.32 million Australia got when they won their seventh title three years ago. For comparison, the men's winners in 2023 took home USD 4 million. This massive push follows ICC's move towards pay parity, announced ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The games will unfold across five exciting venues: Guwahati, Indore, Navi Mumbai, Visakhapatnam in India, and Colombo in Sri Lanka. How is the prize split? The runner-up team will earn USD 2.24 million – almost four times what England earned as finalists in 2022. The two teams losing at the semi-final stage will each pocket USD 1.12 million, up from USD 300,000 before. Even teams at the group stage get a prize of USD 34,314 per win! Teams finishing fifth and sixth receive USD 700,000 each, while the seventh and eighth places get USD 280,000. Every competitor is guaranteed a base prize of USD 250,000 just for taking part. ICC chairman Jay Shah said, “This announcement marks a defining milestone in the journey of women’s cricket. This four-fold increase in prize money is a landmark moment for women’s cricket and reflects our clear commitment to its long-term growth.” He added, “Our message is simple, women cricketers must know they will be treated on par with men if they choose this sport professionally.” The Women's World Cup 2025 is gearing up to be a blockbuster event. With huge stakes and fierce competition, this celebration of cricket promises thrills, talent, and equality like never before!
