Get ready for the festive rush! India’s logistics scene is showing sparkling signs of recovery. According to the September edition of Shriram Mobility Bulletin, truck rentals are climbing steadily across the country. Key routes like Bengaluru-Mumbai-Bengaluru jumped 1.5%, Delhi-Kolkata-Delhi rose 1.3%, and even Guwahati-Mumbai-Guwahati went up by 1.1%. But don’t forget the monsoons’ mischief: heavy rains in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand slowed down truck movements there. Why the upswing? The festive season is knocking and goods need to flow to every corner to meet consumer demand. This buzz also fuels a 7% rise in sales of Earth Moving Equipment, as infrastructure projects roar back post-monsoon. Goods Carriers showed a healthy 2% sales glow, and agricultural trailers benefited too with a 4% rise after the Kharif harvest. On the flip side, not all vehicles enjoyed the party mood. Car sales dipped 3%, two-wheelers barely grew by 1%, and commercial tractor sales nose-dived a sharp 29%. Maxi cabs and e-rickshaw carts weren’t spared either, with declines of 14% and 9%. Buyers seem to be playing safe, waiting for better times. Luckily, with GST rate changes and the festive festival season ahead, experts expect a sales revival soon. Charging ahead in the electric lane, the EV segment dazzled with solid growth. Electric four-wheelers zoomed up by 14%, showing cities are warming up to clean rides. E-2 wheelers nudged forward by 1%, while E-3 wheelers slipped down slightly by 3%. YS Chakravarti, CEO and Managing Director of Shriram Finance Ltd., shared some spicy insights: “Truck rentals remained steady to firm with manufacturers moving goods to commercial hubs in a build up to the upcoming festival season. Early indications from Kerala suggest that we are heading for a significant jump in Onam (start of Indian festival season) consumption which is a good augury. However, there are issues of stagnation at some export hubs due to import tariffs by US.” All eyes are on the coming months! As the festival spirit kindles demand, and GST revisions make buyers keen, India’s vehicle and logistics markets might just burst into a colorful celebration of growth.
