VISAKHAPATNAM: What a shocking twist at Chodavaram sub-jail in Anakapalli district! On Friday, two remand prisoners pulled off a daring escape after brutally attacking the jail's head-warder, Veeraju, with a hammer. The prisoners have been named as B Ramu, who is accused of property crimes, and Nakka Ravi Kumar, a panchayat secretary arrested for stealing government funds meant for pensioners. Here’s how the jailbreak unfolded: The prisoners were near the jail kitchen, busy preparing food. Suddenly, B Ramu grabbed a hammer from the head-warder’s table and struck Veeraju hard on the head. In the chaos, he snatched the main gate keys from Veeraju’s pocket, unlocked the gates, and bolted out like lightning. But the drama didn’t end there. Nakka Ravi Kumar, his partner in crime, promised to catch Ramu but vanished chasing him. Shockingly, neither returned as the rest of the jail staff realized what had happened and raised the alarm. Veeraju, despite suffering a head injury, is now admitted to the government hospital at Chodavaram and his condition is stable, a relief amid this tense situation. Authorities acted swiftly. Following reports from the jail staff, Chodavaram police registered a case and formed a special team to track down the two fugitives. The manhunt is on in full swing! Can the police catch the prisoners before they slip away for good? The race against time is on in Anakapalli district!
