NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan Surges Ahead with 427 MP Votes in Vice Presidential Battle

September 9, 2025

The race to become India's Vice President is buzzing with action! On Tuesday, the big vote is set to take place, and NDA’s candidate CP Radhakrishnan is leading with a strong support of 427 MPs. This number is well above the magic majority mark of 391, making him the favorite. A BJP leader said, "The NDA candidate is expected to garner at least 427 votes." In the Lower House, or Lok Sabha, Radhakrishnan is likely to get 293 votes, while in the Upper House, the Rajya Sabha, he is expected to secure 134 votes. On the other hand, the Opposition's pick, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, has the backing of 354 MPs — 249 from Lok Sabha and 105 from Rajya Sabha. Currently, the Parliament has 781 members in total, with 542 seats in Lok Sabha (one is vacant) and 239 in Rajya Sabha (five are vacant). Interestingly, some parties like Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have decided to stay away from voting and will abstain. BJP MPs are confidently claiming victory. BJP MP Ananta Nayak boldly told ANI, "NDA has more numbers in the election today. We will definitely win, and CP Radhakrishnan will definitely become the Vice President of the country." BJP MP Pradeep Purohit shared his excitement, saying, "Our candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, must win. There is no doubt, as our numbers in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha are more than 422. So, we expect more votes from other parties also. There is a possibility that there will be cross-voting in favour of our candidate." Another BJP MP, Rambhai Mokariya, was full of hope: "We are very hopeful. Our candidate will win. CP Radhakrishnan will win 100 per cent. At 8 am, all MPs of Gujarat and Goa will gather at the residence of Mansukh Mandaviya. We will vote at 10 am. We will ensure he wins with a thumping majority. The opposition candidate is not going to win." Today morning, Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty and other NDA MPs arrived at Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's residence, gearing up for the big event. Voting will start at 10 am in the Parliament, and the results will be announced by 5 pm. All eyes are on this high-stakes face-off, and the nation waits to see who takes the second highest constitutional post in India!
