Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the luxury British car brand owned by Tata Motors, has hit the brakes on production until September 24 due to a sneaky cyberattack. Earlier this month, JLR revealed a security incident that forced a pause, but now the stop is extended as the company digs deeper into the digital trouble. "Today we have informed colleagues, suppliers and partners that we have extended the current pause in our production until Wednesday 24th September 2025," JLR said. The firm is running a forensic investigation to understand the attack and carefully planning a slow and safe restart of its operations worldwide. "We are very sorry for the continued disruption this incident is causing and we will continue to update as the investigation progresses," the company apologized. This cyberattack couldn't have come at a worse time. Sept 1 marks the launch of new registration plates in the UK, a popular period for new car deliveries. Now, even repair garages are worried. The BBC reports that Jaguar and Land Rover owners may face delays getting vehicle parts because of the attack's fallout. Who’s behind this online mischief? A hacker gang called “Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters” has claimed responsibility. This group, linked to a previous cyber strike on retail giant Marks and Spencer, is rumored to be a bunch of English-speaking teenagers. They told the BBC they broke into JLR’s network but didn't admit to stealing secret data or spreading malware. To prove their claim, the hackers shared two images showing internal JLR instructions about charging issues and computer logs. Cyber experts think these screenshots reveal that hackers peeked at sensitive stuff not meant for public eyes. Interestingly, JLR recently signed a hefty five-year, £800 million deal with Tata Consultancy Services, focusing on beefing up cybersecurity and IT. But this breach shows even big investments can be challenged by sly cyber attackers. On top of the mess from this cyberattack, JLR is facing profit drops due to rising costs from U.S. tariffs. This tough phase means the carmaker must carefully fix its security and operations to zoom ahead once again.
