Amit Shah Champions Divyang Community: Society Must Help Them Shine and Build India

September 21, 2025

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday fired up the crowd, saying a lot still needs to be done for the Divyang community in India. While visiting to lay the foundation for three projects at Parasmal Bohra Netraheen Mahavidhyalaya, he stood firm on one crucial idea: society should take responsibility to help Divyangs grow and shine in life and nation-building. Shah was joined by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Supreme Court judges, and state ministers for this big event. Recognizing the school's strong work to help people with disabilities, Shah said, "In such a way, one day we will certainly be able to ensure a good life and career for them (divyangs)." He praised small steps by people from many fields that combine to create big changes. The Home Minister also shared the government's role in improving views and conditions for the Divyang community. He reminded everyone how changing a word made a huge difference. "We replaced the term 'viklang' (disabled) with 'divyang,' meaning divine body, in 2015. This one alteration of term changed the perspective of people and governments," Shah noted. He stressed the need to make sure society supports Divyangs to build the nation and their own lives. Shah brought the spotlight to the inspiring Paralympic javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia from Churu, Rajasthan, who won gold twice. "Nothing is impossible if society, governments, and NGOs work together," he said. He proudly pointed out, "India won a few medals in the Paralympics between 1960 and 2013, before clinching a whopping 52 medals in the past three Games." The Home Minister's message was clear: support and unity unlock potential. He revealed how government funding for Divyang empowerment soared from Rs 338 crore in 2014 to Rs 1,313 crore today. With this growing power and fresh enthusiasm, India's Divyang champions are ready to rise and shine brighter than ever!
