Bokaro woke up to a heartbreaking story from Giridih. A little two-year-old boy, playing near Gandhi Chowk, slipped into an open drain filled by heavy rainwater on Saturday evening. The powerful water current swept the child away in a flash, turning the area into a scene of panic. Rescue teams rushed to the spot but could not find the child despite hard work until 1:30 am. The search was paused but started again after angry locals demanded action. Finally, after nearly 18 hours, the authorities found the child’s body on Sunday. Furious residents flooded the streets, shouting slogans against the district administration and the municipal corporation. They blamed poor maintenance and negligence for this tragic accident. To calm the boiling situation, senior officials like sub-divisional magistrate Shrikant Vispurte, deputy superintendent of police Neeraj Kumar Singh, and Sadar SDPO Jeetwahan Oraon arrived at the site to handle the crisis. This sad event highlights the dangers of broken civic infrastructure during heavy rains and the urgent need for better safety measures.
