Margao is buzzing as Citizens for Democracy Goa raises a big demand! They want the Goa State Election Commission to bring a fresh breeze of transparency to the upcoming zilla panchayat (ZP) and municipal elections. Their call? Make every important document easily available online! Elvis Gomes, the convener of the group, sounded a sharp warning about the lack of digital access to election papers. Why do we still have to visit mamlatdar offices to see the draft delimitation of constituencies? He asked, pointing out, “It is a contradiction that in this age of e-governance, the commission has chosen not to upload the draft of delimitation of constituencies.” In today’s digital world, hiding such key documents feels old-fashioned! The organisation also pressed for giving hopeful candidates more time to file objections. This extra time would help them prepare better and contest fairly. As the elections draw near, the citizens want fair play and crystal-clear information. Will the Election Commission listen and take the online plunge? Only time will tell, but Citizens for Democracy Goa is certainly turning up the heat for transparent elections!
