BENGALURU: Karnataka's state health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has officially confirmed 16 active Covid-19 cases in the region. This announcement comes amidst concerns over rising Covid infections in parts of Asia, including Singapore and Hong Kong. The total number of active Covid cases in India was reported to be 257 as of May 19. Health officials have stated that most of these cases are mild and do not require hospitalisation. A senior government source mentioned that the Covid-19 situation in India is currently under control following a high-level review chaired by the Director General of Health Services. The meeting, attended by key agencies including ICMR and NCDC, emphasized the proactive approach taken by the central health ministry, closely monitoring international trends. Hospitals across the country have been advised to be vigilant in observing cases of influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory infections. India's surveillance network, which includes the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme and ICMR systems, is continuously monitoring respiratory viruses, including Covid-19.
