On Thursday, heavy rains poured down on parts of the state, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to warn with an 'orange alert' in the three southernmost districts - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta. This alert lasted for three hours starting from 7:15 am. According to the IMD, "thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and maximum surface wind speed, occasionally reaching 50 kmph (in gusts), were very likely to occur" in these areas.
