Kolkata is gripped by a chilling murder mystery! On October 29, the body of Swapan Kamilya, 45, a jewellery shop owner from West Midnapore’s Danton, was discovered in a deserted area of New Town. His body showed several injuries, and a post-mortem confirmed he was beaten to death. Swapan ran a small jewellery business from a rented shop in Salt Lake. The police revealed that Swapan’s family claims a shocking truth — Prasanta Burman, a community Block Development Officer (BDO) from Jalpaiguri district in North Bengal, allegedly came to Salt Lake on October 28 with some men and abducted Swapan the night before his body was found. Gobinda Bag, the owner of the shop where Swapan worked, shared a spine-tingling detail. He says he was also kidnapped by the same group, who claimed to be led by Prasanta Burman. "The man who abducted us identified himself as Prasanta Burman. He alleged that Kamilya purchased some jewellery that was stolen from his home near Siliguri. He let me go but took Kamilya away," Bag told reporters. However, the accused BDO remained silent, refusing to speak to the media from his office in Jalpaiguri’s Rajganj. He said, "I don’t have any home. Don’t ask me any question." The family’s grief and shock were vocalised by Ratan Kamilya, Swapan’s younger brother: "My brother was murdered. Burman earlier came to our village looking for him." Local political voices are holding back. Khageswar Roy, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Rajganj, said, "I don’t know anything about the incident. It is the responsibility of the police to investigate the murder." The police from Bidhannagar police commissionerate are currently investigating this dark and disturbing case, which has sent ripples of shock through Kolkata and beyond. The community waits for answers — who killed Swapan and why? Will justice be served for the jewellery shop owner beaten to death in this mysterious crime? Stay tuned as the investigation unfolds!
