Former Indian cricket legend Cheteshwar Pujara hung up his boots this August, and he’s sharing the sweet truths of life after cricket. The 37-year-old batsman said his retirement was no sudden decision. “Having dedicated my entire life to the game, it obviously wasn’t an easy call, but as a sportsperson, you know when the time is right,” Pujara told Bombay Times. He explained that with young talents waiting eagerly, it felt right to step aside and let them shine. Now, Pujara is soaking up precious family moments, especially with his daughter. “It’s been good so far. I finally have the time to be with my family, especially my daughter, and I’m really enjoying that,” he said with a warm smile. Surprising for a sportsperson, he hasn’t felt the pull of intense training. Still, he keeps a steady fitness routine and lives a healthy life. The cricket champ is not rushing into new roles. “For now, I just want to spend time with my family, travel a little and experience aspects of life that took a backseat during my playing days,” he shared. He praised his family’s incredible support during his cricket career — his parents' sacrifices, his wife’s management at home, and his daughter’s role in keeping him grounded. “This new phase of life gives me the chance to give back in the only way I can, by being more present with them and spending quality time together.” Pujara has also dipped his toes into media work and enjoyed it. “Maybe I’ll explore that further. I’m not rushing into anything. I’ll take it as it comes.” In addition, he recently joined the PHorce Club, which works to popularize the game of Pickleball in India. India’s cricket rock is transitioning with grace, ready for a new innings beyond the pitch!
