Get ready for a dazzling new Netflix drama! The streaming giant has officially given the go-ahead to 'Kennedy,' an eight-episode series that dives deep into the story of America's most famous political family. The show stars Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender as Joseph Kennedy Sr., the ambitious father whose influence shaped generations of the Kennedy dynasty. This series is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Fredrik Logevall’s acclaimed book, "JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917–1956." The first season takes viewers back to the 1930s, tracing how Joe and Rose Kennedy aimed high with their political and social ambitions while raising their nine children — including a young Jack Kennedy, who later became a legendary U.S. President. According to Netflix, "Kennedy will delve into the intimate lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies that shaped the family’s legacy and, in turn, modern American history." It’s not just another history lesson; it’s a rollercoaster full of family drama and powerful emotions. Oscar-nominated director Thomas Vinterberg, known for the hit film "Another Round," will direct and executive produce. Joining him as executive producers are Eric Roth (famed for "Forrest Gump"), Fredrik Logevall himself, plus Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason. Sam Shaw, famous for shows like "Manhattan" and "Castle Rock," will also be the showrunner, guiding the creative vision. Industry experts are calling 'Kennedy' Netflix’s answer to "The Crown," promising breathtaking historical storytelling paired with a juicy peek into power and family legacy. For Fassbender, this marks his second big TV role after his work on Paramount+’s "The Agency." Known for stellar performances in films like "12 Years a Slave," "Steve Jobs," and "Shame," and recently seen in Steven Soderbergh’s "Black Bag," Fassbender brings star power and depth to the project. Production is set to start in early 2026, with Netflix aiming to make 'Kennedy' one of its standout prestige dramas. Fans of history and gripping family stories have much to look forward to!
