Big missile news is buzzing! The Indian Air Force (IAF) has a spicy plan to buy missiles worth around Rs 10,000 crore for the famous S-400 ‘Sudarshan chakra’ air defence systems. Defence sources say the Ministry of Defence will review this proposal soon, at the Defence Acquisition Council meeting on October 23. Why the rush? Because the S-400 missiles showed their firepower in Operation Sindoor, a quick four-day fight where they shot down five to six Pakistani fighter jets and a surveillance drone — all over 300 km inside Pakistan! This success has pushed India to boost its air defence even more. Talks with Russia, the missile maker, are on fire to get a large number of these deadly missiles, which will add layers to India’s sky shield. India first signed a big deal with Russia in 2018 for five squadrons of S-400 systems. Red alert: only three squadrons have arrived and are up and running because the Russia-Ukraine conflict delayed the rest. But India is now pushing hard for the last two squadrons to come quickly. And wait, there’s more! India wants to grab extra S-400 units and is eyeing the new S-500 missile systems, which sound even cooler and more advanced. The missile party doesn’t end there. India is also discussing buying advanced air-to-air missiles from Russia, which would help IAF pilots fight beyond what their eyes can see. Plus, talks are heating up over upgrades to the powerful BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and its newer versions, highlighting the strong defence friendship between New Delhi and Moscow. Mark your calendars! Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India in December. Defence cooperation will surely be a hot topic as both countries deepen their strategic bond. Stay tuned — India’s missile game is getting stronger and hotter!
