India to Buy Rs 10,000 Crore Missiles from Russia to Power Up S-400 Air Defence System

October 23, 2025

India is ready to spice up its air defence like never before! How? By buying missiles worth around Rs 10,000 crore from Russia for its deadly S-400 air defence system, famously called "Sudarshan Chakra" in India. This famous system, named after Lord Vishnu’s legendary weapon, is already making waves. It struck gold during the four-day Operation Sindoor, reportedly shooting down six to seven Pakistani fighter and spy aircraft more than 300 km deep inside Pakistan. The Indian Air Force (IAF) calls this feat a “game-changer” that stopped Pakistan's plans to attack Indian military spots. Defence sources revealed to ANI, “The Indian Air Force is looking to buy the missiles in significant numbers to further bolster its air defence capabilities. The discussions with the Russian side are already on in this regard.” This means more air defence strength, longer strike range, and sharper interception skills. What’s cooking next? The Defence Acquisition Council is expected to discuss and maybe approve this big missile purchase on October 23. India had signed a deal with Russia in 2018 for five S-400 squadrons. While three squadrons have arrived on time, delivery of the fourth was delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine war. India has already asked Moscow to speed up the remaining deliveries and is also eyeing adding even more advanced systems like the S-400 and the futuristic S-500 in the future. Besides this, India and Russia are chatting about buying new air-to-air missiles that will give Indian jets the power to engage enemies far beyond what they can see. There’s also talk of upgrading the famous BrahMos supersonic cruise missile into next-generation versions. So, what makes the S-400 so special? Made by Russia’s Almaz-Antey, the S-400 can detect enemies from as far as 600 km and hit them up to 400 km away! It can target all sorts of aerial threats, like planes, drones, and even ballistic missiles. The Indian version, Sudarshan Chakra, lives up to its name by being super precise, fast, and deadly. With Russian President Vladimir Putin expected to visit India in December, expect big talks on defence deals and joint military projects. This friendship and cooperation are central to keeping India's skies safe and boosting its strategic power. Hold tight, India’s air defence is getting turbocharged!
