JNUSU Elections on November 4: ABVP vs Left Clash Sparks Tense JNU Poll Battle!

October 24, 2025

Get ready, JNU fans! The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union elections are set for November 4, with results due on November 6. This announcement came after a rollercoaster of drama and clashes between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Left-wing student groups during meetings to pick the Election Committee. The current JNUSU team has three members from the United Left and one from ABVP. The last election was held in April, delayed by the pandemic that messed up JNU’s studies and calendars. Now, the university has decided to speed things up, holding elections earlier than usual. In April, the United Left was divided into two groups. But this time, there are fresh talks to reunite the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), hoping to bring together Left forces in their JNU stronghold. The ABVP, which snagged the joint secretary post in April — their first big win in ten years — is hungry to expand its influence this year. The election race is heating up! Here’s a quick look at the schedule: The voters’ list is out this Friday. Nomination forms get handed out on Saturday, and candidates can start filing by Monday. After checking and withdrawals, the final candidate list will be shown on Tuesday. Then, school-level General Body Meetings are planned from Wednesday to Friday next week, followed by a thrilling presidential debate on November 2. This year’s General Body Meetings, usually wrapped up in a week, dragged on from October 9 to 21 due to nonstop confrontations. Outgoing JNUSU general secretary Munteha Fatima said, “Even though we met quorum and voting requirements, ABVP kept accusing us of being undemocratic because the campus atmosphere is largely anti-ABVP.” Ouch! In turn, ABVP’s joint secretary Vaibhav Meena shot back by accusing the Left of “manipulating EC selections in undemocratic ways” to secure “their people.” With sparks flying and alliances forming, JNU’s campus is buzzing with excitement and tension. Who will win this fierce battle for student power? Mark your calendars and watch this space!
