Palghar reported a terrible accident late Friday night near Nilmati village in Mokhada taluka. Around 8.30 pm, a government ambulance tore down the Nashik–Jawhar state highway at high speed. Suddenly, it crashed violently into a motorcycle carrying two men. The crash happened when the driver, Ramesh Ramrao Barde, lost control at a sharp curve. The victims were identified as Anil Kharpade, who was riding pillion, and Chintaman Kirkire, the motorcycle rider. Both suffered severe head injuries and died instantly at the spot, shocking locals who rushed to help. The police said the ambulance was recklessly speeding from Jawhar towards Nashik. "The driver was driving negligently and ignored traffic safety rules," the police confirmed. Ramesh Barde, 45, the driver and resident of Jawhar, was injured in the crash. Police said he will be arrested after his medical treatment is done. He has been booked under sections of causing death by negligence (BNS 106) and various rules of the Motor Vehicles Act. The victims’ families received the bodies after the postmortem. This part of the Vikramgarh - Jawhar - Nashik road is very busy. Hundreds of vehicles, including ST buses, use this road daily to go between Palghar, Vasai Virar, and Nashik. Unfortunately, much of this highway has narrow, single-lane roads and tricky steep turns, making it a dangerous path for drivers. This tragic event is a harsh reminder about the risks of reckless driving on these roads. Will stricter safety measures come soon to save more lives on this perilous highway?
