KOLHAPUR: The political storm is brewing after a 26-year-old doctor in Phaltan, Satara district, was found dead in a hotel on Thursday night, October 23. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, made a strong statement on the social platform ‘X’, accusing the Maharashtra BJP-led government of showing its “inhuman and insensitive” side. Rahul Gandhi did not mince words. He called this death “not a suicide but an institutional murder and a shameful example of crime by power-protected ideology.” He pointed out that the very person who should protect people from criminals was involved in a terrible crime – rape and exploitation. He cited media reports saying that influential people linked to the BJP had tried to pressure the doctor earlier to serve their own corrupt goals. Gandhi asked, “When people in power become the shield of criminals then from whom should one expect justice.” Showing heartfelt support, Rahul Gandhi declared, “We firmly stand by the doctor’s family in this fight for justice and want justice and not fear for each daughter of India.” The tragic story has a dark twist. The police found a note on the doctor’s palm that seemed like a suicide note. Based on this, the police filed a case of rape and abetment of suicide against a police sub-inspector and a techie, both now arrested. The opposition in Maharashtra has revealed a chilling written complaint from the doctor. She claimed that cops from Phaltan Rural Police Station forced her to change the post-mortem report. There was pressure to declare one accused fit, despite his high blood pressure, in an alleged interaction involving a local politician. This case exposes a web of alleged corruption, misuse of power, and the desperate fight for justice for the doctor and her family. The nation watches closely as the battle for truth unfolds.
