ITBP Builds 10 All-Women Border Posts & Expands Forward Bases Along India-China LAC!
November 23, 2025
At a chilly but proud parade in Jammu, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) celebrated its 64th Raising Day by revealing bold plans and achievements along India's 3,488 km-long border with China. The ITBP guards the high and tough Line of Actual Control (LAC), where temperatures can dip and oxygen is thin. "We have worked on the forwardisation plan and, as a result, the number of forward-deployed BOPs (border outposts) is now 215 as compared to 180," said ITBP Director General Praveen Kumar.
But wait, there's more spicy news! The ITBP is setting up 10 all-women border posts (BOPs) to add muscle and charm to the frontline. Two of these will be in Ladakh's Lukung and in Thangi, Himachal Pradesh. And 8 more all-women BOPs will be ready soon! This bold move is part of boosting women's roles in security.
The force also got a big boost from the Indian government, which approved seven new battalions and a sector headquarters in 2023, adding about 9,400 troops. The DG explained, "The establishment of seven new battalions and a sector headquarters has not only strengthened this plan (forwardisation) but has also enhanced our reach and supervision of the forward areas..."
Looking ahead, the ITBP plans to set up 41 more forward bases along the LAC to keep India’s borders extra safe and well-coordinated. To gear up its soldiers for this icy, difficult terrain, ITBP’s training institutes have been reshaped. Five new training programs help troops master mountain warfare and tactical survival — skills crucial at heights ranging from 9,000 to over 14,000 feet.
Since its start in 1962, this paramilitary force under the Union Home Ministry has grown to over one lakh personnel. With these new steps, the ITBP is marching confidently into the future, ready to meet any challenge hanging over the Himalayas with grit and glory.
