Buckle up, Andhra Pradesh! Cyclone Montha, which roared in as a Severe Cyclonic Storm on Tuesday, has now softened its blow. Early Wednesday, it weakened to a Cyclonic Storm while moving northwest over the coastal belt. The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA) shared fresh updates. By 2:30 am Wednesday, Montha was centred just 50 km northeast of Machilipatnam. It's also 90 km west-southwest of Kakinada, 230 km southwest of Visakhapatnam, and 470 km southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha. Moving steadily at 10 kmph in the last six hours, Montha is keeping its strength but is expected to weaken. The APDMA bulletin at 6:30 am said, “It is likely to move nearly northwestwards across coastal Andhra Pradesh and maintain its intensity of Cyclonic Storm (CS) during the next 6 hours and weaken further into a deep depression during the subsequent 6 hours.” The key update? The rear part of Cyclone Montha has already entered the land. So, what does this mean for you? Get ready for light to moderate rains across Andhra Pradesh's coastal districts today. Stay alert and follow local advisories, but the storm’s lessening strength is a relief for many. As Montha continues to drift, weather watchers and disaster teams remain on their toes, keeping a close eye on its moves. The skies may still grumble, but the storm's punch is fading!
