Rahul Dravid Hails Rohit Sharma for Revolutionizing India’s White-Ball Cricket and Leading T20 World Cup Win

October 30, 2025

Former India coach Rahul Dravid has big words for captain Rohit Sharma! He praised Rohit for leading by example and changing India’s mindset in white-ball cricket. Together, Dravid and Rohit made magic in 2023 and 2024. India reached the finals of both the ODI and T20 World Cups and won the T20 title in 2024. The Dravid-Rohit partnership opened a new chapter in Indian cricket. Rohit took charge with an unselfish and explosive approach in ICC tournaments. His fiery intent fired up the whole team. Thanks to Rohit’s fearless attitude, India started dominating white-ball cricket like never before. Dravid revealed how it was their shared dream to play aggressive cricket from the start. Speaking on 'Breakfast with Champions,' he said, "From the time I came in, a lot of the discussion with Rohit around was that we wanted to play a more aggressive brand of cricket. And we tried we started right from the beginning because we could see that that's the way the game was evolving and Rohit deserves a lot of credit for it. To move the team in a particular direction. Play the game in a lot more aggressive and a lot more positive manner and I'm glad that we've sort of kept going in that direction to the point where I think India's kind of changing what T20 cricket is like." Dravid’s time as head coach ended on a high with India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. His three-year journey starting in 2021 shaped a fearless, result-focused Indian side, especially in white-ball cricket. But coaching wasn’t always easy. Dravid shared the toughest part was talking to players about tough selection decisions. "I think the challenge is communicating to people when they're not picked in teams or why you have to drop certain people or why it's a combination you're playing. Not all of them will agree with you at times. And that's and that's part of the job, right? Because you sometimes don't even have good enough explanations to people as to why they are not picked and you know, because they might be good enough. And it's just that somebody else happens to be equally good enough," he said. This honest insight shows the tricky side of coaching at the top level. Still, the Dravid-Rohit duo’s fearless cricket changed the game and brought India glorious success on world stages.
