COIMBATORE: What a story of hope and skill! Doctors at Royal Care Hospital in Coimbatore performed a spectacular surgery to remove a giant tumour weighing 7.5 kg from the abdomen of a 33-year-old woman. The woman, hailing from the Nilgiris district, had been struggling with severe abdominal pain and swelling for more than six months. Despite visiting several hospitals, she found no relief. After her admission to Royal Care Hospital, the medical team conducted a detailed evaluation. Interestingly, all cancer markers came back normal, but an MRI scan revealed a huge tumour occupying her abdomen and pelvic area. A strong team of experts came together for the challenging operation. This included Dr Manikandan, the onco surgeon, Dr Vinodha, an obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr Muthukumar, the anaesthesiologist, and Dr Annapoorani, the pathologist. Their teamwork shone as they completed the complex surgery without any problems, removing the entire tumour successfully. During the surgery, a frozen section test was done. It confirmed that the tumour was a uterine leiomyoma, also known as a fibroid tumour, which is a benign growth. What a relief for the patient! The woman steadily improved after the operation and was discharged in a stable condition just four days later. This amazing medical feat gives hope to many facing similar health scares. Royal Care Hospital’s team showed expert skills and compassion to turn a tough situation into a success story.
