Karnataka’s tech story is getting a fresh, fiery chapter! The Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (KEONICS) has just invited proposals to build a brand-new technology park in Mangaluru. This exciting announcement came from N. Manjula, the Secretary of Karnataka’s Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and Science and Technology, during a lively chat with the press in Mangaluru on Friday. The new tech park is planned on a prime 3.285-acre piece of land along Blueberry Hills Road. KEONICS will develop it with a public-private partnership model known as DBFOT—Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer. Why this park? Because Mangaluru currently lacks a modern tech hub, and this new project will pump vibrant energy into the local IT ecosystem. Manjula proudly shared that this initiative aims to attract a variety of IT companies, boost the region’s tech infrastructure, and create plenty of new jobs. These fresh job opportunities mean big economic benefits for Mangaluru and surrounding areas. Isn’t it awesome when technology meets opportunity? She also highlighted that IT growth is zooming beyond just Bengaluru. Cities like Mangaluru, Mysuru, Huballi-Dharwad, and Belagavi are becoming magnets for IT investments. In fact, some nano Global Capability Centres (GCCs) have already set up shop in the Mangaluru-Udupi region. There’s more on the horizon: Manjula mentioned the potential for establishing a data centre park in Mangaluru. But, to make this happen, they need to carefully study power, water, and other infrastructure needs through a feasibility study. Adding more sparkle to the event, Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, CEO of Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), revealed that many companies have chosen Mangaluru as their new home. A foreign firm even set up a research and development centre here—a clear sign the city is going places! Rohit Bhat, lead anchor of the Mangaluru cluster at KDEM, chimed in, saying office space inquiries in the IT sector are rising fast. This boost comes thanks to the city’s improving IT infrastructure and a growing talent pool ready to rock the tech world. With government support, private sector enthusiasm, and local talent all joining forces, Mangaluru is all set to shine as a new jewel in Karnataka’s booming IT crown!
