Bengaluru was buzzing on Thursday as the fiery clash between Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya turned explosive! In a heated exchange, Shivakumar didn’t hold back, calling Surya “childish” and a “waste material.” It all started after a recent meeting where they tried to find ways to reduce Bengaluru’s traffic jams. Shivakumar sharply criticized Surya’s suggestions and actions. “He is childish and has no experience. He is a waste material. Out of respect for his position, I called him for a meeting, but now he is talking nonsense in public,” the Deputy CM said. What’s all this about? Surya had earlier mocked Shivakumar’s comment that “people can't be stopped from using their cars” and even joked that “parents do not give away girls to boys who do not own a car.” Surya sarcastically suggested that the state government seems to be building the tunnel road just “to solve a social problem.” Shivakumar fired back fiercely, questioning Surya’s maturity and achievements. “He is immature. He hasn’t brought even ₹10 from the central govt. When BJP was in power, what did they do for Bengaluru’s public transport? Centre funds only 10-12% of the Namma Metro cost. The rest is borne by the state,” he said. He didn’t stop there, calling Surya “a waste material” and praising BJP leaders like R Ashoka and Basavaraj Bommai for understanding things better. Shivakumar also mentioned that Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar praised Karnataka’s tunnel road plan and moves to regularize B-khata properties. On Surya’s idea of a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Shivakumar was blunt: “Do we have that much space for BRTS? Does he even know the cost of land acquisition? He doesn't have a brain.” And then came the zinger! Shivakumar challenged Surya, “Why is he travelling by car? Let him and his family use the Metro and govt buses. Let BJP MLAs travel by the Metro and autorickshaws. We can't tell everyone to stop using cars.” This intense verbal duel unfolded during a meeting of urban development ministers from the southern states—Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep—in Bengaluru. While they discussed urban issues, the real drama was unfolding between these two political figures. Stay tuned for Surya’s reply, expected soon!
