Drama on the cricket field turned into a health scare for India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer! The 30-year-old hero took a brave running catch to dismiss Australia’s Alex Carey during the third ODI. But the exciting moment came with a price — Iyer injured his lower left rib cage while diving for the catch off Harshit Rana's bowling. This was not a simple injury. It was a serious blow causing a spleen laceration with internal bleeding, something that needed quick action. "Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding," revealed BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. Thanks to prompt medical attention and a minor procedure in Sydney, the bleeding was stopped immediately. Iyer’s health has been closely monitored by the BCCI medical team, along with specialists both in Sydney and back in India. Good news poured in from the BCCI on Saturday, November 1, 2025: "He (Iyer) is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today." The cricket board also extended heartfelt thanks to the doctors who took care of their star player. "The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury," Saikia added. Though out of the hospital, Shreyas will stay in Sydney for follow-up check-ups until he is fit enough to fly back to India. Unfortunately, the talented batsman will be out of cricket action for at least two months, as he recovers fully from this surprising injury. Fans and teammates wait eagerly to see him back on the field soon! Shreyas Iyer’s toughness, quick medical care, and positive spirit have certainly turned a scary incident into a hopeful recovery story!
