The commerce and industry ministry of India has evaluated the usage of the preferential route offered by the Asean-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) for exporting various goods, like chemicals and plastics, to Thailand. It has been observed that the current utilization rate is below 50%. The AITIGA, which was signed in 2009, aims to facilitate trade in goods between ASEAN countries and India. However, the expected benefits have not been fully realized due to the underutilization of this agreement. The ministry is now reviewing the situation to identify the reasons for the low uptake and to devise strategies to enhance the utilization of this trade agreement. By addressing the existing barriers and challenges, the ministry hopes to boost the export of goods to Thailand and other ASEAN nations through this preferential route. This review process underscores the government's commitment to promoting trade and economic relations with its regional partners.
