Delhi is facing a concerning issue as its trees are increasingly getting uprooted during storms. The primary reason behind this phenomenon is the shallow root systems of the trees. Urban surfaces like concrete and asphalt hinder rainwater from penetrating deep into the soil, depriving the trees of essential moisture and nutrients. Consequently, the trees become weak and more susceptible to being uprooted by strong winds. To address this problem, experts are advising to plant more trees in areas with ample open space. These open spaces allow better water absorption, enabling the trees to develop stronger root systems and withstand harsh weather conditions. Protecting the trees in Delhi is crucial not only for maintaining the city's green cover but also for ensuring a sustainable and healthy environment for its residents.
